Campiroi was originally a “Maiensäss” (mountain) in the municipality of Calonico. The cottage (on the left in the photo) was renovated in 2018 and is located in a quiet and sunny position at the edge of the forest, in the middle of a cantonal nature reserve (wetland) surrounded by trees and meadows. With a bit of luck, at dusk or early in the morning, deers or roe deers can be spotted. Between August and September, mushrooms can be picked not far from the cottage!
There are several hiking trails that you can take. For example, the path of the "Strada Alta" Airolo-Biasca, which passes only 50 m from the Rustico, or it is possible to go for a hike in the Blenio valley through the "Bassa di Nara" pass at 2,122 m above sea level. The panoramic view of the mountains, the valley and the landscape is wonderful and unique.
The nearest grocery shops are either in Calonico (a very small shop "Da Paolina", 3 km, 5 minutes by car, which is only open on certain days and times) or in Faido, 14 km from the Rustico (22 minutes by car). A delicious pizza (and more dishes) can be enjoyed in Anzonico (4 km, 9 min by car). More restaurants can be found in Faido.
